The primary objective of PSR is to provide structured rehabilitation activities for adults with severe and persistent mental illness. The program assists consumers in developing their social, vocational, educational, recreational, and independent living skills. Recovery services are designed to help clients improve the management of their illnesses and to maximize their long-term recovery. These services are available in a licensed community setting for five or more hours a day. The MHA/NC provides Psychosocial Rehabilitation services through contractual arrangements with Local Management Entities throughout the state. "The basic definition of a PSR Clubhouse is where members participate in a day program designed to assist adults with a psychiatric disability to increase their day-to-day functioning, enabling them to become more independent, successful and satisfied within the environment of their choice with the least amount of ongoing professional intervention. Each Clubhouse helps establish goals and assists members to focus on skills and resource development that help increase their ability to live as independently as possible by managing their illness. Members also participate within the community and find opportunities related to functional, social, educational, and vocational goals. addition to the basic definition, the Clubhouse becomes an extended family to the members where they share laughter, tears, joys of accomplishment, outings, games, and learn teamwork, support, and dependability. A Clubhouse becomes a home away from home for many of the members because they know that people care and understand their needs but most of all, the people there understand who they are and understand. Isn't that what it's all about? Finding our place in this ever-changing world?" (quote courtesy of familyalternatives.com)
